However, following the Second World War, the kitchen became pivotal to the design of the house. In the 1950s the kitchen progressed to being a showpiece of modernity.The 1960s saw a bridging of the kitchen and informal meals area. As women entered the workforce the division between the kitchen and the dining area became less defined.As this book illustrates, the humble kitchen has come a long way.
