The memoir you will read is not that of an ordinary person. In her childhood she became fascinated with a pet tortoise. A tortoise lives inside a shell, trying to protect itself from a cruel world outside. It moves slowly, but in the end manages to survive. Wafa had to create her own shell to survive. This is the incredible story of a Palestinian woman, the determined single mother of two lovely daughters, a brave human being who takes the world by the horns, and subjects it to making her finish her education through Braille and other means, earn her PhD on black American literature, finally to become a professor of English, and the head of that department at birzeit university. By the end of this short but powerful memoir, the reader cannot but admire the stuff of which Palestinian women are made.
